I edited my music video on iMovie. I found it very easy and simple to use it was easy to cut clips and paste clips together.

The representation of my music video is shown through 2 main catergories.

1. Clothing. The main character is dressed in typical clothes for the genre, a fitted cap, baggy jeans, and a jacket.

2. Setting – The main setting of the video is a rundown council estate, this goes with the feel of the song, there are shots of walls covered in graffiti, abandoned houses, railway bridges, and alleys, all typical settings for a Hip Hop music video.

Overall I think that my music video was a success. The feedback I have received was positive and I am happy with it. If I could do it again I would sync it better, use more cuts, and more settings.

City of God Review

City of God is a 2002 Brazilian crime drama film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Katia Lund.
Set in the slums of Rio De Janerio, the film spans almost 20 years, from the 1960s to the 1980s.

Rocket,  the protagonist of the film, also narrates it, telling the stories of himself and his dreams of being a photographer, his friends, and gangs trying to take over the slums drug trade

The other characters, in my opinion, are very believable, they all have their own issues, and the storylines for each character are equally interesting, especially Lil Zé, a surprisingly lovable “bad guy”, a ruthless, trigger happy criminal, who wont stop until he controls all of the slums drug trade, and doesn’t care who gets in his way, although he is clearly an unpleasant person, (For example when he shoots two young boys, of a child gang called the “Runts” in the foot and hand, and forces a younger member of his own gang to choose one of them, and kill him.) you do sympathise with him as a character.

Although the film is quite difficult to follow, with many different storylines and being in Portugese,  i really enjoyed it, it’s very captivating and engaging, and based on a true story, which makes it even more gripping.lildice

Once Were Warriors Review

e15186enzOnce Were Warriors is a gritty and real depiction of New Zealand, in major contrast to the idea of New Zealand being a desolate, lush country, with a higher population of sheep than people. It focuses on a Maori family living in a rough, poverty strick area of Auckland, Beth, her husband Jake and five children. The plot begins with Jake being fired from his job, he spends most of his time getting drunk with his friends, it then goes on to follow 3 of the children aswell, Nig, the eldest son, who is a gang member and has a bad relationship with his father. ‘Boogie’ who frequently commits minor crimes, and ends up being taken away from the family and fostered, and Grace, the eldest daughter who is the only family member with an interest in education.

The film contains some disturbing scenes, such as domestic violence, rape of a minor, and the film ending in the suicide of Grace, and is very uprfront about these scenes, not suggesting domestic violence as many films do but graphically re-enacting it.

Despite the depressing and dark scenes, i enjoyed this film because it shows another side of reality, of how some peoples lives are, and is perhaps a more real life portrayal of a family in comparison to one in a Hollywood film.
